COMMENTS FROM PAST AND CURRENT STAFF

When I started working at camp two years ago, I didn’t know anything about the outdoors…I’d never even been camping.  But before long I felt completely at home.  I learned so much in such a short amount of time.  I met life long friends-they’ve taught me so much about myself.
MAC-2005 Assistant Camp Director

For 13 summers Camp Tahigwa has been my vacation spot.  Through those years I’ve had great memories as a camper, CIT, and now as a counselor.  As a camper I loved being away from home, as a CIT I loved being with my new friends, and as a counselor I love how everyday we make an impact on a girl’s life even if we don’t know it.  These memories are why I come back to Camp Tahigwa year after year.  It is a great place to grow as a person and to meet people that will change your life.

I had a great time working and having fun outdoors.  Now I am friends with people from all over Iowa, and even Tennessee.

Camp Tahigwa has helped me become the person I am today.  It has helped me grow as a person and I would not be who I am without it.

Camp has always been a place for me to call home.  I’ve loved every minute I’ve ever had at the big CT!  There’s so many great memories for me there, I always miss it when I’m away.

Camp Tahigwa…it is a place where I learned who I was and what I wanted to do with my life.  It is a place where I can learn and grow.  It is a place where I made friendships that will last a lifetime.  It is a place where I can be amazed by our campers on a day-to-day basis.—their minds are full of spectacular ideas!  Camp Tahigwa is not just a physical place, it is a place that you can carry with you in your heart and mind once you leave.

Camp Tahigwa is a safe place where girls can be whoever they want for a week—they don’t have to worry about peer pressure, stresses at home, or what others think about them.  They are all able to try new things and experience independence and success at camp, as well as have the undivided attention of staff members who have the time to laugh with them and entertain them.  Those staff members are incredible people who are constantly reminding me of the person I want to be.  There is something special about the people I have met working at Camp Tahigwa, and many of them are now my closest friends.

Camp, to me, is the insane dew on the grass in the morning that soaks your feet when you go wake up the campers; it's the wonderfully cold and refreshing pump water; it's the slamming of latrine doors late at night and the giggles from the tents when the girls try to stay up "all night;"  it's the crazy singing and acting and huge smiles; it's the plethora of hugs and the tears; and the silliness that evolves from hanging out with awesome counselors whose real names you can never quite grasp.
