Is Camp Tahigwa Accredited?

Camp Tahigwa is accredited by the American Camp Association, an organization which holds high standards and expectations of member camps. The Camp adheres to the high standards of Girl Scouts of the USA, American Camp Association, American Red Cross and the State of Iowa.

Where is Camp Tahigwa?

Camp Tahigwa is on 315 beautiful acres of rolling hills in Allamakee County, between Decorah and Waukon in northeast Iowa. The beautiful meadows, wooded areas, rippling stream, and modern facilities offer many opportunities for fun and adventure. Map to Camp Tahigwa.

Who Supervises The Summer Resident Campers?

Camp Staff are primarily young adults chosen for their character, understanding of girls, love of the out-of-doors and special skills. They are responsible for units of 10 -32 girls. All staff members receive extensive training prior to the beginning of the Camp season. Staff members hold certification required for their position and have past experience in their area of expertise. They are employed because of their experience and desire to work with girls in an outdoor setting.

Is a Physical Required for Summer Resident Camp?

YES! A physical examination by a licensed physician within 24 months of your Summer Resident Camp session is required of all girls and adults attending resident Camp. Health Examination Form. A health examination form, to be completed by a physician, will also be sent to you in the Camper Confirmation Packet.

When Will Campers Arrive And Leave Camp Tahigwa During Their Summer Resident Camp Experience?

Campers check in from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. on the opening day of their Camp session. Admittance to Camp will not begin until 2:30 p.m., so that staff can prepare the facilities for the campers' arrival.

A closing ceremony will highlight each week's activities. Parents, guardians, family and friends are invited to join in the closing ceremony, starting promptly at 6 p.m.. Attendance at the closing ceremony is encouraged but not required. Girls will be ready for check out at approximately 6:30 p.m..

Parents/guardians should be sure all their girl's possessions are packed before leaving Camp. Lost and found items will be held at the Waterloo Service Center at 2530 University Avenue, Waterloo 50701, until the following September 1st, after which time they will be donated to a charitable organization.

What If My Camper Has Special Needs?

If your child has special needs, every effort will be made to adjust and meet those needs so that she may participate fully. The kitchen staff will gladly prepare special diets necessary due to health problems or religious requirements. Just indicate any special needs at the time of registration. If your girl uses special cosmetics or hair/skin care products, you may send them to Camp with her. Counselors, as well as the Health Supervisor, are available to help with special cosmetic needs as necessary.
